Tekuma Frenchman wins first place for Xichong, Shenzhen.
We are excited to announce that Tekuma Frenchman was awarded the top prize for its Xichong master plan proposal. Together with Gensler and the Zhujiang Hydrology Institute, Tekuma Frenchman was shortlisted last year for the International Consulting on the Urban Design of Xichong, Nan’ao, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen City. In November of 2019, nine experts selected Tekuma Frenchman’s scheme, receiving joint-first place with two other international consortiums, Hassell and Agence TER. The official announcement was finally released this week and can be found in Chinese here. Shown above are Kun Qian and Tengjia Liu from Tekuma Frenchman with our consortium team.
The project was special to our team: rather than simply building anew, the objective was to restore nature, the agricultural land, and the cultural vestiges of local communities. Hence, rather than treat Xichong like a conventional urban area, we proposed to create a Special Ecological Zone. This innovative management model would support the ecology while fostering industries with local communities having stewardship over their land. This strategy and design philosophy will make Xichong a unique cultural and ecological global destination. Find out more about Xichong on the project page.
