Earlier this month, Tekuma Frenchman with local partner EOWON Architects was shortlisted for the land reclamation masterplan Penang South Island (PSI) jointly organized by the Malaysian Institute of Architects (Northern Chapter) and the Board of Architects. The other four shortlisted consortiums include Bjarke Ingels Group (Denmark) with Hijjas Architects and Planners; Foster + Partners (UK) with GDP Architects Sdn Bhd; and UN Studio (Netherlands) with Architects 61 Sdn Bhd.

With our practice’s recent award-winning projects evolving around coastal developments and supported by our strong international advisory network which includes experts on A.I. infrastructure, mobility, coastal resilience and marine hydraulics, and real estate innovation, our consortium is poised to design a masterplan in the image and ambition of Penang. Driven by our unique design-engineered approach integrating economics, urban technologies and design, we will work collaboratively with Penang partner EOWON Architects, and the engineering firm LEVEL, to develop the masterplan of the three islands.

We are enthused to build on our previous land reclamation project ‘Shenzhen New Marine City’ delivered in 2018, and we look forward to working hand in hand with the Penang government in developing what we believe will mark a new era for the province and the nation. The design will be submitted in early April, following which the results will be publicly shared by the competition organizers.

More information can be obtained on the competition website.
